Hi there and welcome! It is probably your first time here on the blog so I would like to introduce myself and my blog to you.
My name is Amanda and I am a twenty-something Graphic Designer and Freelance Writer living in Sydney, Australia.
I have always been a very creative person and have studied various facets of design including interior design, jewellery design and graphic design. Since graduating I have worked in the newspaper and publication world for companies such as Fairfax Media and Real Estate Publications Australasia and titles such as The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age among others. I am now an independent Graphic Designer with many projects on the go!
I currently work part time with Portobello Bride designing and writing for their blog and split the rest of my time between this blog, my graphic design work, lemon tree lane, and am a founding member of the Creative Collective group of bloggers.
If you decide to stick around you will discover I love all areas of design and am slightly [ok maybe more than slightly] obsessed with stationery and paper products. I have a huge passion for the independent and handmade arts and I am also environmentally conscious. I'm still very interested in Interior Design as well as fashion, craft, jewellery design and so much more. Calico & Co, is my place to share those loves [and anything else I fancy] with the world.
I like to sing, love period dramas, reality TV [well some of it], books of all kinds and a whole bunch of other contradictory things! I often wonder how so much that doesn't seem to go together has come to be the person I am! Guess that's what makes me uniquely me! More than those things though, I am a daughter, a sister and an aunty; three roles I cherish and feel truly are the icing on the cake!
Calico & Co. is an online journal where I share all the amazing indie, handmade and design discoveries I come across in my day to day life. I particularly have a passion to shine the spotlight on and support Australian creatives in their indie and handmade ventures, and if it is environmentally friendly then that's all the better! I also share parts of my real life with my readers and some of the projects I am working on, like my graphic design work, lemon tree lane [my eco friendly stationery range] and more!
